... getting a urine sample from a little boy who is still in diapers and has severe diaper rash on his penis.

They actually had an adhesive plastic bag that they taped onto him while he was crying and screaming at the top of his lungs "Pee pee! Pee pee!"

And this was right after I had to hold him down while they took blood.

Tomorrow, stool samples!

Oh dear me. I had the joy of doing that with my son once. Horrid. Doesn't matter what the age -- they just instinctively know that tape just does not belong down there and around that!

I don't think it would have been half as bad without the diaper rash, because his last few diaper changes were tourture without the tape and the plastic bag.

And then we had to keep taking off his diaper to check the collection bag and he would cry when we would even try to get his pants down.

The poor little guy has just about had it. We are going on 10 days of vomiting and "loose stools".

That doesn't sound like fun at all! Poor boy.

It sounds like it might be Rotavirus. I think both of my kids had a bout with that when they were about 18 months...it lasts 7 to 10 days instead of the usual 3 to 4 for a stomach virus. It was horrible, esp. with the diaper rash compounding everything. Hope he's feeling better soon. Hugs to you both.

The Nurse Practitioner was wondering about that, but he was vaccinated for Rotavirus. Of course, I know it still could be that. We are coming up on 10 days and we are back at one little incident of throwing up and one messy diaper today, so that is encouraging.

At this point I just want the little guy to feel better.

Bad stomach virus we think. Dave had it, I had it, Adam got it when he was here to visit, we have given it to Lydia and Chad as well. Everyone but Max and Dave got better in a couple of days, Max has been sick for over a week. Good news from his blood work is that he is not dehydrated, but he has lost some weight so that is a concern.

Gastroenteritis? We had that and it hit Alex the worst of any of us. Vomiting and diarrhea for days and days.

Oh the poor kid...I feel for you. Am hoping he is better today and that the urine and stool samples actually give some info about the virus or whatever bug it is *hugs*
