I am fine

Sorry, I just realized that it has been awhile since I updated. And as it is Monday and I have no appointments until 3:30pm today at work, I really should use my free time wisely and let my flist know how I am doing.

I am fine. I have been sleeping a little better, although the Puff likes to do his evening workout around 11pm which tends to keep me up a little later than I would like. He seems to be all legs atm.

I had another sonogram last week and they said that 1) His head is still "huge" and 2) he already weighs in at 4 lbs. According to my doctors he is right on track to weigh close to 9 lbs by his due date. I am pretty much resigned to this as both of violet451's little monsters were over the 8 1/2 lbs. mark and my mom has stated that all of her children would have been about that size or larger if she would have been able to carry any of us to term. ( I was a premie myself and Vi was early too like a lot of first babies and the other two non-LJing sibs were both early as well) So I am pretty confident, since my test results and monitoring show that I am keeping my blood sugars in normal ranges, that the Puff's size is simply due to genetics and not to my diabetes.

I start twice a week fetal monitoring appointments tomorrow. And then after that they will be on Mondays and Thursdays of every week. As annoying as this will be for my work schedule, I know that it will be nice to know that the Puff is doing okay.

The Puff still does not have a name. And we only have 8 weeks (or possibly less *gulp*) to come up with one. You are all welcome to continue to submit suggestions.

Other than Puff stuff I have been theorizing about BSG (which has been very necessary if you follow the show) with the Slytherin and reading rather speedily through The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. It is another wizard named Harry, but past that there are few similarities to HP. I am on book 8 of those and book 9 doesn't come out for three weeks. I like them, though I have to say that the quality of the writing improves the farther you get into the series. But the author's sense of humor is right up my alley, and I always like a book that can make me laugh out loud while reading it. And several of these have. My favorite so far was the sixth one in the series "Blood Rites."

=]

that's my stock description of the books when people ask me about it: they're about a wizard named harry who's also pretty much an orphan. only he lives in chicago.

i'm on 'dead beat' right now, and harry is summoning the erlking.

Oh that one has an EXCELLENT ending!

Did you know that Jim Butcher has an LJ??? It doesn't look like he updates much but still I thought that it was kind of funny that he had one.

i actually did know about his LJ. i haven't had a chance yet to go through and actually read his posts (in part because i'm still reading the books and am wary of spoilers, and in part because i suck and have no time, lol.

have you been watching the show on Sci-Fi?

Good to see a post from you. You have popped into my mind several times over the past week or so, glad to know that you and the Puff are doing well.

I love the photos you posted -- I have had a rally hard time commenting lately -- not sure what that is about.

My favorite male name is Javier.

I am also a big fan of using names with family connections. Like... my maternal grandmother's "maiden" name was Dixon. Although I won't be having kids at this point -- if by some odd circumstance I did I would certainly think about Dixon as a first name. My friend did this -- her grandmother's last name had been Fletcher -- they used this as their first son's first name. I think they used one of her husband's grandparents last name for their second son.

I also just like the idea of perusing the family tree for interesting old names.

The last names in my family don't seem to make for easy conversions to first names, unfortunately. :( (Cansino, Guzman, Jokish...)

I have gone digging through the family tree and have yet to find anything that wouldn't scar the poor boy for life, (as much as I like Angus, his dad has vetoed it) It is just so hard because my last name is soooo plain, and I want him to be a little bit unique.

This is starting to worry me though...

Wow. Jokish is a great name. But maybe not for a wee baby.

Guzman... Gus... could work. But yeah, not so easily.

Aside from Javier I also like Gr names like Grady, Grayson, Graham, and Grant. Not sure why I like that Gr sound but it do.

(sorry, wrong me before!)

Good to hear that the Puff and you are doing ok!

Is "The Dresden Files" on (I think the Sci channel) the same as the books?

The series is based on the novels, but as is the usual case, the books are just so much better! I recommend them.

Oh and I just caught Fid on gmail. She is alive and well and still in Europe with her fam.

I've been considering watching the dresden files and didnt know they were books! that's very exciting to find out so thank you. although, is it the sort of series that is indefinite and he'll keep writing till he kicks the bucket, or is there an overarching plot that will, hopefully, finish some day? if it's the latter i will definitely wait until it's done to read them. I have learned my lesson, harry freaking potter! }:(
As for the naming Gigantipuff situation, I'm not sure you should worry about it. He can be referred to as "the kid" for a week or so until he chooses his own name by force of personality. I've known many people who were named in this way and they didnt suffer one bit. One of them is named Paisley because of his obsession with a particular tie. Another is named Astor because when his mom was breast feeding him for the first time she was looking at a bouquet of aster flowers (but it turns out astor means hawk, which is very cool.) One of them is a little girl named Gigi whose real name is Georgina which was conveniently her grandpa's name. (well, george.)
If you *really* want a suggestion, I've always wanted to meet a man named Moss.

His big brother is Adam.

But Max was one of the first names that I put on the list. I am not sure if I like it or not as his last name will start with M as well.

I may be completely loony by the time he gets here just trying to figure this out!

Oh and send me an email to ladytory@gmail.com with your LJ name as the subject and I will send you my snail mail addy :D

I have read that the author plans on taking the series out to the mid teens or early twenties as far as the number of vloumes. There are some overarching plot points and cross vloume character developement, but I have to say that the last book that I read (#8) is the only one that really screamed for a sequel. (And it is due out the first week in April) Aside from that each volume is a self contained story, with Harry Dresden working on one or two "cases" or mysteries in each one. They often tend to be entertwined by the end so it all wraps up neatly at the end of each book.

There are no cliff hangers like the HP books. So It would be much more comfortable to wait for a next installment than it has been for us with the Potter! ;)
