I need a kick ass oatmeal raisin cookie recipe. My Facebook plea has come up with nothing.

I would love to find something involving lemon zest if possible. Is that too weird? I have my fabulous muscat raisins that were delivered in a 5 lbs. bulk plastic bag straight from Sunmaid (They even enclosed a hand written thank you card!), and I really want a recipe that will showcase them. They have a really rich and slightly citrusy flavor to them.

If nobody comes to my rescue here I am going to have to start inventing things. I would go for a fruit bread recipe as well, but I would rather not do banana bread just because I basically have no bananas and don't know that I could get enough of them ripe enought to make bread with in time for the Christmas gift exchanges.

Any ideas???

OOOH OOHH I have one - it doesn't have lemon zest in it - but it would be super yummy if you added some!!

3/4 cup butter, softened.
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1.4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
2 3/4 cups rolled oats
1 cup raisins.


1. Preheat over to 375*F (190*C)
2. In large bowl, cream together butter, and sugars until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla until fluffy. Stir together flour, soda, cinnamon, and salt. Gradually beat into butter mixture. Stir in oats and raisin. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake 8-10 minutes in the preheated over, or until golden brown. Cool slightly and then remove from sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.


I've used this every year for my little plates of cookies for neighbours and teachers. It's super yummy. :)

Sounds good I may have to add the lemon zest and see how it works!

How do they end up texture wise?

Crunchy, soft or chewy?

I am partial to the chewy kind myself, but I am willing to branch out ;)

um...soft AND chewy? More soft I guess? I've never thought about it before. Jay hates raisins so I only leave a few for us to eat - most go to the neighbours. :)

oh! muscat raisins! those must be heaven. I love muscat grapes. Believe it or not, I would use them in pizza or indian fried rice. My favorite pizza is topped with goat cheese, serrano ham and dried figs soak in Muscato wine, but the muscat raisins would be perfect!
