Ouch *cough* Ouch!

Okay so every one knew that I had the delightful cold turned bronchitis thingy going on. Yeah fun. Now it seems that I have either a) severely pulled muscles OR b) a cracked rib from coughing. pan_alchemist my heart goes out to you really it does.

I called the doctor and she said that she would call me in some codine and phenergan cough syrup. What sucks is that I am a wee bit paranoid.

I have yet to get it. Yes, I am in excruciating pain especially when I drive. (Gotta love that 40 minutes each way commute everyday!) But I really can't take something like that during the day and safely function. And I know what that stuff does to me and it just creeps me out to think what effect it would have on the Puff. I think I would be even more upset if he wasn't moving around like usual cause he was all drugged up. And I have issues with said cough syrup at night as well. It gives me nightmares. Really.

I mean the most realistic, your eyes are open and your dreams are superimposed on the space around you demonic blood-washed nightmares. I really don't need that right now. And I doubt that dreams like that would help me sleep better and get well.

Luckily, so far my boss has been understanding and is letting me cancel homevisits and follow up with my client's from the office by phone.

Again though, the Puff seems like he is just a-okay fine as he is kicking and squirming away as usual. So at least that makes me feel better.

Thanks for letting me whine. You may now return to your regularly scheduled flist.

Ouch. I've done that before, and it's really, really painful. It sucks enough to just be sick, but it's that much worse when you're pregnant.

What a dilemma, though. I'm the same way when I take that drug--it really throws me for a loop and makes me completely worthless when I take it. But you almost need to take it to get better.

I assume the doc that did the script knows your pregnant? They shouldn't give you anything that would harm the Puff. One possibility might be to call the doc or pharmacy and describe the situation and then ask if you could take a half-dose. That *might* help the cough enough so that it doesn't hurt so much when you cough and let you get on the road to healing.

*gentle hugs* And I hope you feel better soon!

Actually my OB is the one that prescribed it. But I am still being a big freak about it. My husband thinks I am nuts, and I might be. But I am telling you the nightmares this stuff gives me are beyond horror movie quality. So I am pretty torn.

Really?? You get the scary dreams too??

Everyone else that I have told about that thinks I am crazy!

Oh Lawd! Everytime I go to the doctor, when I fill out the place on the form where it asks for "drug allergies", I list Codeine. When it says, "allergic reaction", I put, "makes me crazy as batshit". Usually this gets a laugh from the doctors.

But yeah, I'd just have to have my leg chopped off if giving me codeine was the only way to save it. The two times I tried, I was absolutely convinced that I could fly out the window.

You know... some people pay good money for that effect... lol.

Isn't there something serious in codeine? I am sure I read somewhere that it had. Morphene? Anyways... I just thought your comment was funny.

Codine and Morphine all have opium derivaitives in them, so yeah pretty serious stuff.

OMG Luv!

Seriously. Find a dark corner, curl up, and don't move again... until you and your ribs are better. You are going to have to sort out that cough, or else you are going to stick yourself through Hell. Cracked/broken ribs plus coughing equals Hell on Earth, and being preggers, I am sure is going to be putting a lot of unwanted strain on it too.

The good thing is the cough is getting better everyday on its own. My biggest problem is driving. For some reason my posture in the car is just evil.

And I suppose it is both impossible for you to try and either get off driving or find a way to use pillows etc to try and make it more comfortable. Oh, who am I kidding. Nothing comfortable in what you are going through.

*more gentle hugs*

Oh dear, that sounds terrible. I'm sorry.

Demonic dreams? eeps. I had some wicked pregnancy dreams, not demons though. My were usually natural disasters, or even worse, when I preggo with the second, I would have dreams about 'only having time to save one child' omg! *sporks self*

Although, you feeling the Puff kicking and squirming is way cool. Can you see the action from the outside yet? When you can see the little alien pushing from the inside? Hee.

See I have the bad dreams just with the codine, not even counting adding the pregnancy-hormones in there, which is what scares me! Adding the two may just push me over the edge!

No real outside action yet, so far his position has made it difficult for even other people to feel him move (he is facing my back so all his kicking and shoving goes inward) plus there is the fact that there is a wee bit of fluff around him as well ;)

oh, I can relate to the nightmares...any opiate-based stuff gives me horrible, vivid, terrifying dreams. I took one vicodin after a major car accident, and after th dreams i had that night, i just lived on tylenol and dealt with the pain...preferable in my opinion. Still, I hope you can find some way to rest and sleep...that's so important. And, only opiate stuff like DM and codeine will cut off the cough reflex enough to let you rest. It may give you nightmares, but it is relatively harmless to the Puff.

Yeah if it wasn't for the nightmares I think I would be a little bit more inclined to try the stuff.

And the doc has said that I cannot have any DM stuff. So I guess this is my only option :(

I hope you feel better!

I've had that kind of coughing fit before. You feel as if you've left your lungs behind you.

I actually pulled a muscle in my side from coughing so much. I bet that's what happened to you as well. Good luck!

You are already such a great mom! Go with your instincts, and try not to exert yourselves. I'm really sorry you're in pain.
*hugs*
